HHS Wins National CLASSY Award
Humane society's achievement story recognized as best in the U.S.
September 23, 2012

Halifax Humane Society was selected Saturday as the National Winner for Animal Advocacy and Services at the 4th Annual CLASSY Awards ceremony. The award was presented at philanthropy’s biggest night, the CLASSY Awards’ red carpet award ceremony on Saturday, September 22, 2012 in San Diego, CA. It is the largest philanthropic award ceremony in the country, recognizing the top charitable achievements around the world.
From a pool of over 2,400 nominations submitted to StayClassy, Halifax Humane Society’s achievement story stood out as the best. Halifax Humane Society’s story details the widespread changes made over the past two years that have improved its ability to save animals and combat the pet overpopulation problem. The organization is also currently celebrating its 75th anniversary of helping animals in the Greater Daytona Beach area.
“Halifax Humane Society in 2011 decided it was time for a new direction, all with one mission in mind – to enhance our services,” said HHS Executive Director Miguel Abi-hassan. “We took our programs from 18 to 38 in a year and a half, and in so doing we increased our adoptions by 21%. In the next year, we hope to launch a new program in which we can train other humane societies to accomplish what we have done here. To all those who took that journey with us, this award is for you.”
The National Winners in each category were determined by the CLASSY Awards Leadership Council, a 30-person panel comprised of industry leaders and experts. The 16 National Winners will be featured in a Charity Auction on eBay Giving Works, appear for one (1) week in the eBay Giving Works’ Give @ Checkout section, receive digital marketing audits from eBoost Consulting, and a one year free subscription to StayClassy fundraising solutions. HHS earlier won the South Region and became eligible for the national award through a combination of public voting and judging by industry professionals.
