Halifax Humane Society Partners with Mobile Dog Gym for Shelter Dogs Run-N-Paw to Start Weekly Exercise Sessions

Daytona Beach, FL – On Friday, August 9, 2024 at 10:00 am, the first exercise sessions for adoptable dogs at Halifax Humane Society through Run-N-Paws mobile dog gym will take place. Exercising large-breed, high-energy dogs helps the shelter teach manners and skills as part of overall training so these dogs can more easily adapt to an adoptive home. Run-N-Paw will be on-site at Halifax Humane Society, 2364 LPGA Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL 32124, from 10 am to 12 pm. Media is invited.

The long-range manners and skills training for shelter dogs will include three potty walks and a structured daily one-on-one lesson. Dogs become more adoptable when taught skills like calmness, leash walking, and basic obedience. High-energy dogs can be untrainable in a shelter environment without an energy outlet.

“With almost 200 adult dogs in our care, our staff cannot properly exercise the large-breed, high-energy dogs daily,” said Sean Hawkins, CAWA, CFRE, Halifax Humane Society’s Chief Executive Officer. “Even with help from a handful of amazing volunteers, we cannot appropriately exercise every dog daily. Bringing a program like Run-N-Paw onsite to the shelter adds skilled staff and specialized equipment to our program for a targeted purpose – exercising those big, unruly dogs. Dogs with an energy outlet can pay attention and learn basic obedience skills. Plus, we think a tired dog is a happy dog!”

All dogs in the Run-N-Paw program are available for adoption at the Halifax Humane Society. You can visit https://www.halifaxhumanesociety.org/pet-adoption to see all the dogs and cats currently available for adoption. The shelter is open daily from 12:00 Noon to 6 pm for adoptions.
